Summary of global phenol status
In 2010, it had approximately X.X million tons of phenol produced by factories around the world with an annual capacity of XX.X million tons, which was considered to be "acceptable". Obviously, from Fig X shown below, Asian-Pacific region and America took a significant part in global phenol capacity, at X.XX million tons in XX% and X.XX million tons in XX%, and the rest was hold by Europe which XX% in west and X% in east.
Fig X Distribution of world phenol capacity in 2010
America XX% Asia XX% West Europe XX% East Europe X%
Note: Table made from pie chart.
However, a huge shortage of phenol supply might be confounded to global market in 2011 with overhaul schedule of Asian phenol plants. According to table X provided by authority, we could know the situation wouldn't be good in 2011, which numbers of large phenol plants would be turned off for several weeks by the reason of overhaul or capacity expanding, also most of them happened in the period of this summer. Therefore, the supply of phenol or related products in 2011 will come with a series of troubles.

Booming production in China
In China, the phenol capacity reached to XXX XXX t/a in 2010 that took over nearly XX% of global totals, while it has a XX% increase compared with capacity in the previous year, which is mainly contributed by the participation of Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical and plant updating of Sinopec Shanghai Gaoqiao, shown in table X below. Overall, in 2010 the output of China's phenol approached to XXX XXX tons.

As one of ethylene downstream plants in Tianjin, Sinopec-SABIC plant has an annual capacity of XXX XXX tons phenol and XXX XXX tons acetone, and its technology has been proven to be quite advanced by the combination of Sinopec innovation and technologies originated in UOP. With this new plant, Sinopec has been able to hold over XX% of phenol & acetone domestic capacity, especially in south China, the coming of Sinopec products changes market structure that once controlled by importers and Zhongxin Chemical Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Kingboard Chemical Holdings Ltd, located in Hong Kong.
Increasing consumption but single product structure
The phenol consumption in China was booming in 2010, the imported phenol volume rose up to XXX XXX tons and has X. X% growth rate with the comparison of XXX XXX tons in 2009, shown in table X of phenol import statistics in 2010. Individually, Thailand and Japan made a good job for China phenol import, approximately XXX XXX tons and XXX XXX tons, occupying XX% and XX% of totals. The rest of imported phenol was dedicated by Taiwan province and United States, each in XX XXX tons.
