Distribution of citric acid consumption in various areas

Citric acid is a highly versatile organic acid, mainly used in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical and detergent industries. It is known as "the first edible acidifying agent" in the food and beverage industry.
Production continues to grow
Prior to 2007, China's citric acid output grew rapidly. In 2007, it reached XXX XXX tons, up XX.X% year on year. In 2010, it reached about X.XX million tons, accounting for about XX% of the global total. From 2005 to 2010, the capacity and output of citric acid in China are shown in Table X.

Major citric acid producers in China are Anhui Fengyuan Biochemical Co Ltd, Weifang Ensign Industry Co Lt, TTCA Co Ltd, RZBC Group Co Ltd and Yixing Union Biochemical Co Ltd (see Table X). The five producers' combined capacity accounts for about XX% of China's total citric acid capacity.

In 2008 - 2009, due to the impact of the world financial crisis, the decline of international demand for citric acid as well as the strengthening of domestic environmental policy, a number of citric acid producers whose emissions did not meet the state stan-dards were gradually eliminated in China. Some producers, such as DSM Citric Acid (Wuxi) Limited, withdrew from the market due to high production costs.
Since 2010, with the improvement of the international economic situation and the continued growth of the domestic economic growth, the demand for citric acid from downstream industries has further grown. The development prospect of citric acid looks very optimistic. Thus, some large citric acid producers in China have constantly expanded their production capacity and increased their output. However, because the Chinese government now takes a policy to restrict the development of the citric acid industry, the citric acid output in the country will not grow too fast but moderately in coming years, remaining at about X million to X.X million tons a year.
In China, citric acid is mainly produced from corn by the fermentation method. In order to alleviate the tight supply of corn and to save food resources, producing citric acid from non-food raw materials, such as cassava, will be the future development direction of the industry.
XX-XX% of the output is used for export
In 2005-2010, the output, export and domestic consumption of citric acid in China are shown in Table X. As seen from the table, XX-XX% of the output is used for export. In 2010, China exported about XXX XXX tons of citric acid to other countries.

Domestic consumption has optimistic growth potential
In China, the domestic consumption of citric acid is about XXX XXX - XXX XXX tons a year. At present, beverage and detergent industries are the two largest consumer markets of citric acid, accounting for more than half of the total citric acid consumption in the country.
